Military Families Make Prattville Their Hometown

Many of the families who relocate to Prattville are affiliated with Maxwell Air Force Base, about 13 miles away. Of the active duty military workers living off base, more than a third choose to live in Prattville. The quality-of-life features that attract active and retired military helped land Prattville on NerdWallet’s 2015 list of best places for relocating families, but for military families specifically, Prattville’s amenities also include a patriotic spirit and limitless support for servicemen and servicewomen.

Gathering of Eagles Foundation

Prattville is a proud supporter of The Gathering of Eagles Foundation that aims to preserve the United States Air Force’s legacy through the celebration of 70 years of Airpower and empowerment of youth in Alabama’s River Region. The GOE Foundation provides financial support to enhance Air Command and Staff College’s Gathering of Eagles program, an annual educational event geared to allow the local community and military members to learn from and honor men and women (our Eagles) who have made significant contributions to air, space, and cyberspace power. For over 40 years, Eagles have shared their stories with ACSC in an effort to inspire future leaders to achieve greatness. Additionally, the GOE Foundation works with community leaders to promote educational opportunities for River Region youth and support community initiatives such as Civilian Air Patrol and Starbase. Finally, the GOE Foundation provides annual scholarships to ROTC cadets and River Region youth interested in aviation and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Burt Williams was stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base in the early 1980s, and Prattville’s patriotism is one reason he decided to retire here.
