"YOUTH-THE REAL FUTURE OF THE SOUTH" TOPIC OF COMMUNITY FORUM

The Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts and Humanities at Auburn University to host a forum focusing on the needs of our area youth.  The forum will generate ideas on encouraging youth leadership skills, workforce readiness, volunteerism, entrepreneurship, and the traits to become active, responsible citizens. Participants from the 2008 class of Youth Leadership Autauga County will come together for this deliberative forum to engage in a discussion entitled, "Youth-The Real Future of the South."  The forum will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 from 2pm until 4pm at the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce, 131 North Court Street in historic downtown Prattville.

As today's workforce ages, our communities must cultivate the vision, talents and passions of our youth. Developing the potential of Southern youth, listening to their views and inspiring them to take action in our communities are vital steps for the economic future of our region. As a forum participant, you will be joining thousands of other Southerners who are holding similar conversations across the region to develop strategies for capturing the spirit and imagination of our youth.

What our community is thinking and doing will be presented at the Southern Growth Policies Board's 2008 annual conference, and in developing Southern Growth's 2008 Report on the Future of the South, a high-profile policy report that is shared with Southern governors and regional leaders in business and education. SGPB is a regional public policy think tank representing 14 Southern states that develops and advances visionary economic development policies.

The February 13th forum is co-sponsored by the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities at Auburn University, the Alabama Cooperative Extension Office in Autauga County, the Youth Leadership Autauga County Board of Directors, and Alabama State Representative Mac Gipson (District 88).

For more information please call the chamber at 334-265-7392 or the Draughon Center at 334-844-4948.
